James Wood

James Wood is a figurative artist living in St Mawes, working in watercolour, acrylic and oils. A self-taught artist, his aim is to portray the beauty of the natural world, simply and faithfully. He paints in watercolour and oil, depending on the subject.

"My approach to landscape painting is straightforward. I choose to paint a particular scene because it offers the interest I'm looking for and has something exceptional about it - perhaps the particular light effect, colour combinations, compositional interest and not forgetting beauty. I make no excuse for my search for beauty! I love the process of painting and try to keep everything as simple as possible, hopefully letting the subject speak and make a connection with the viewer."

James has published a series of reproductions of his paintings and also undertakes commissioned work. He has exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists in London.
